We live in a world where almost everything is becoming faster, smarter, digital, and disposable. Yet we continue to form deep emotional connections with physical objects. But why do you think, we still fall in love with physical objects?
Join SF’s Jeevak Badve and Greg Verras, Director of Watch Design at Shinola, for a conversation about the power of industrial design to create products that people don’t simply use, but choose, wear, collect, remember, and keep.
Through the lens of watchmaking, we will explore what happens when functionality meets emotion, craftsmanship meets manufacturing, and product design meets storytelling. What makes one watch simply tell time while another becomes part of someone’s identity?
From inspiration and sketching to materials, proportion, manufacturing, brand, and emotional connection, this session will uncover the thinking behind designing meaningful products in an increasingly crowded and disposable world.
This session is for anyone interested in understanding how thoughtful design can transform an everyday object into a meaningful experience—and how great products can build lasting connections between people, brands, and the things they choose to own. For designers, entrepreneurs, product leaders, and anyone fascinated by why people choose the things they do, this is a conversation about one fundamental question: How do we design products that people genuinely want to live with?
