Tonight, SF filled their water bottles to the brim, changed into shorts and T’s, grabbed their bikes, and headed downtown for the Slow Roll.
At SF we are not just industrial designers. Each of us has diverse talents and passions that we also bring to the table. Along with having a host of other side projects and hobbies, most of us happen to be outdoors enthusiasts or fitness gurus. Grey, our CEO and Director of Engineering is an avid bicycler with no less than 5 triathlons under his belt. David our Director of Design has also run more races than you can count on two hands. Jeevak, our Director of Strategic growth runs at least 3 to 4 obstacle course races each year. Evan, our HMI Design Lead has kayaked all around Michigan…you get the idea. So when Michelle, one of our fearless design researchers and a regular at bicycling meetups, told the team about this community bike ride for all ages and skill levels, it was an instant hit as a studio activity.
Slow Roll bike rides happen every Monday night in Detroit. Each week, the group meets at a different venue to ride through the city’s neighborhoods on a new route and enjoy Detroit from a unique angle. The Slow Roll takes a pleasant, summer pace of about 10 miles in about an hour. Operated by Detroit Bike City, Inc, a non-profit organization, it’s the perfect group activity for your biological family – or your work family!

The turnout for the Slow Roll is usually pretty hefty, and this time was no disappointment. The entire route was blocked off so that the crowd of Slow Roll-ers, along with the SF team, could enjoy free run of the road – sans any car traffic. Set against the backdrop of a Detroit sunset, and framed by the vistas of the city neighborhoods, this was the perfect way to spend a chill summer’s evening.
Having had such a great first experience as a team, there’s no doubt we’ll be back at the Slow Roll soon!
Will we see you there? To learn more about the Slow Roll and for the dates of the next one, click here.
See you on the road!
