About The Event

Enough of this doom and gloom about canceled conferences, no air-travel, no large gatherings, WFH notices, shortages of hand sanitizer, face masks, and all the rest of it. So what if you’re holed up in your home-studies and kitchens? We can still aspire to learn, connect, and have fun together. We all need to cheer up a bit, and we, the design community, are the ones known for our optimism! This is our time to shine!

So – Sundberg-Ferar is hosting a free, multi-day, event to connect with and inspire each other on March 24-25, 12:00-4:00pm EDT. You won’t want to miss it, so register now to save your spot!

Agenda

DAY 1 – Tuesday, March 24th

12:15pm – 1:00pm

Terence Duncan is an experienced Product Visionary, with a demonstrated history leading the development of innovative and brand-defining connected mobility products, automotive electronics/interiors and Housewares products. He is a well-rounded product development professional, skilled in consumer research, ideation, usability design, aesthetics, product marketing and manufacturing feasibility. Terence excels at talent coaching and interdisciplinary team building.

1:15pm – 2:00pm

Jeff is a passionate change agent that reenergizes companies through customer insights, strategic planning, and ROI driven execution. He has senior marketing, sales, and operations experience with Whirlpool, Masco, Brunswick, and HNI Corporation. He currently works for Chief Outsiders, a network of over 65 Chief Marketing Officers, committed to driving accelerated growth for small and medium sized companies. Jeff earned his undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University and MBA from Indiana University.

2:15pm – 3:00pm

Dave is Vice President of Innovation at Lear Corporation. He also serves as a member of the founding team at SiMa.ai, a stealth startup focused on disruptive computing. Previously Dave was Sr. Director of Autonomous Driving Platforms at Toyota Research Institute. He has also served as the Director of Technology for Samsung Strategy & Innovation Center where he was responsible for open innovation, architecture development, and technical innovation in automotive, including the areas of ADAS and Autonomous Driving. Prior to joining Samsung, he led automotive integration for NVIDIA, developing advanced concepts for vehicle cockpit and autonomous vehicles. Dave has also held several engineering and technical roles at Altera, SiriusXM Radio, and Visteon. In 2015, he was named a Rising Star by Automotive News. Dave earned his B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Purdue University and is a graduate of the Engineering Leadership Program at UC Berkeley. He also holds several international patents.

3:15pm – 4:00pm

As an educator, executive, and consultant for the past 25 years, Bob Royce has enjoyed solving business problems by leveraging information technology. A bit of a geek who reads for fun, he loves the intersection of the visual, verbal, and computational worlds. Although he started his career as an educator and graphic designer, he eventually moved into business and management roles and now finds pleasure in the combination of them all. Prior to co-founding TUG, Bob was managing director of RFD Insight, a business consultancy providing interim cross-functional teams. Previous roles also include VP of Business Development at DNA Software and Senior Director at AppNet/Commerce One, where he led a team of solutions architects delivering eBusiness solutions to a range of corporate clients.

DAY 2 – Wednesday, March 25th

12:15pm – 1:00pm

Drew Patrick leads Skidmore, a strategic creative studio, in helping good organizations be their best through expert brand strategy and design. Drew earned a degree in economics from Albion College in 2000 and received the Crain’s Detroit Business CFO of the Year Award in 2013. Prior to joining the studio, he was an auditor at EY, a consultant, and a partner in a material handling business. His experience and passion for the purposeful work of Skidmore helped lead the team to earn the honor of one of the Michigan 50 Companies to Watch in 2019. Outside the studio, Drew has run the original marathon course in Greece, dived the Great Barrier Reef, and strangely, toured most of the grocery stores in Nairobi.

1:15pm – 2:00pm

Jamie Stephanian-Bennet is a Strategic Leadership, Marketing, Brand and Project Management/Account Management professional with an innate ability to drive business organically through a consultative approach. Jamie is experienced  in collaborating and, when appropriate, leading a cross-functional team to achieve overall goals of launching successful programs. He has delivered and lead multiple clients through change management processes in the field of digital solutions, technology, CRM, healthcare and strategic marketing initiatives. He has strong experience in leading clients through strategic planning process and delivering outcomes that are used as the standard of excellence within multiple organizations.

2:15pm – 3:00pm

Olga Stella has almost 20 years of experience in economic development, public policy and coalition-building in Detroit. Her career has spanned working alongside residents in Detroit neighborhoods to helping to facilitate over $200 million in investment in the city. Olga lives with her family in Detroit and is active in the community, serving on the boards of several nonprofit organizations. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan Ford School of Public Policy.

3:15pm – 4:00pm

David’s passion for design and cars led him to the Motor City where he graduated from CCS in Transportation Design. He spent his early career at GM and ASC before becoming Lead Designer at Saleen where he penned the 2008 S5S Raptor supercar and 2010 Saleen S281. David then jumped from sports cars to sports equipment when he joined New Balance’s hockey and lacrosse brand, Warrior, where he lead the helmet design team. David has a strong ability to edit, communicate and execute concepts that connect on an emotional level while delivering real world solutions. His diverse background provides a wide perspective when tackling the vast array of design challenges experienced at Sundberg-Ferar. He stays active in the art community teaching design courses at CCS and has judged multiple times at the National Fine Arts Festival.

Jeevak brings energy, passion & curiosity to his role at Sundberg-Ferar. With his unique blend of education and experience in industrial design, engineering and business, he is a rallying voice for the alignment and optimal inclusion of the end user’s un-met needs, and unspoken wants in the core value proposition of a company’s products & service portfolio to generate sought-after shareholder value. Jeevak has more than 23 years of professional design experience, first in India for 7 years at Tata Motors, and then in the U.S. for 16 years at GM Design and now Sundberg-Ferar. Beyond his role at SF, Jeevak is a board member of many prominent design associations and think tanks including the Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA), Michigan Design Council, Aether Design Group, and Detroit Creative Corridor. In his copious amounts of spare time, Jeevak can be found indulging his love of kickboxing, and obstacle course running, or photographing birds in obscure parts of the world.
